HBR Foundation: Request Mr Gwede Mantashe to withdraw statement about Zimbabwe

HBR (Hola Bon Renaissance) Foundation is a non-politically aligned, non-governmental organization having been established to address and encourage the growth in African communities through socio-economic transformation and building societies that are self-sustainable with a central economic hub.

On behalf of the civil organisation in Southern Africa, and Africa in general, we appeal to the ruling party in South Africa under the stewardship of Mr Gwede Mantashe, to uphold the responsibility of South Africa which was mandated to mediate in Zimbabwe economical, social and political spheres, we request the all people in African Continent and the world to adhere to the independency and democratic process that governs Zimbabwe and support the people of Zimbabwe.

We feel it is a reckless and irresponsible statement that has a negative influence in the elections of Zimbabwe, which was issued by Mr Gwede Mantase (high profile, senior member of the ruling party in South Africa) on the eve of general elections in Zimbabwe. When he refers to one party above the other as to blame for the economic downfall of Zimbabwe, without noting that most of the liberation movements in South Africa and in the African Continent in the 80s were in exile in Zimbabwe and also history does highlight the aftermath of colonism in Zimbabwe. Hence we call on Mr Mantashe to withdraw his statement immediately and apologize to Zimbabweans and the SADC community.

The diplomatic relations that  South Africa is having in Africa becomes a wastefully exercise if the ruling party is biased, while the government it leads is supposed to mediate and strengthen the democracy, security for free fair and transparent democratic elections in Zimbabwe and in the African continent. Even the America and Europe have clearly stated that they will respect the democratic process of Zimbabwe and only Zimbabweans can choose their government.

We further appeal to the Africa Union delegation to issue statements that reflect the true status quo without taking side in Zimbabwe. In fostering free and fair elections we also request all African media to provide true media coverage on 2013 Zimbabwe general elections.

Zimbabwean people are ready to govern, lets us be there to assist them working together for a better change.

Regards

Mr Bontshitswe Mothopeng
